Living Room Update

Necklace: c/o Julie Vos | Cuff: c/o Julie Vos
It’s been about two and a half months since we’ve moved into our house and I’m so pumped to share an update on our living room space. If you’ve been following along on Instagram, you’ll know that we purchased this property primarily for the piece of land. After realizing that the house wasn’t in such depths of despair, we challenged ourselves to fix it up to the best of our ability and on a serious budget to justify the cost of living in it while we figured out our next move versus renting.

I picked up this affordable media console table on Wayfair after searching high and low for a reasonable option that incorporated a light, airy vibe. I try to treat media consoles as pieces of furniture so adding coffee table books and nik naks within empty spaces makes it feel less utilitarian. Storage baskets are also great for hiding blankets when you have horribly insulated windows haha!

Colourful coffee table books have become the go-to for decorating in the house. I love searching at Homesense or HomeGoods for affordable options and always peek beneath the decorative spine to see if there’s a neutral colour you can stack.

We opted for store-bought curtain panels for our two living room windows and I think it was a great choice for an affordable option.

Surprise! More coffee table books ;)

With large gaps to fill in the oversized room, we decided to try our hand at a fiddle leaf fig … once again! It’s been a month and it’s still alive and well which I think is a good sign!

Truthfully, I’m undecided on whether we keep the coffee table as is or the rug – but one or the other is going. I’m torn on whether we should stain the coffee table a lighter shade or if we should swap out the rug for something with colour and pattern. I loved the idea and look of a jute rug from the web but in person, I’m a little uneasy at how easy the fabric has been stretched and the amount of pulls.
We’re also hoping to hang two picture ledges above the couch to fill the gap on the wall.

Stay tuned for more house updates soon!
